New HSI Screen Idea
Hi,
I have been watching Dynon’s products for quite a while and have been fairly impressed with the available units. I am building an aircraft of my own design and have been tossing around all the possible panel configurations and vendors and systems and prices and so on. What I have found to be most disappointing about your current systems is that there is a lack of heading and course information. Last night as I slept I dreamt of (and now propose) a D100 rotated 90* with the normal D10A display over a conventional EHSI. The EHSI would include a heading bug and conventional CDI and GS indicators. This would probably require a rotary knob for setting course and heading (could also be used for Baro. Set). From an uneducated standpoint this doesn’t seem like such a large development task. I believe that you already have the gyro and Mag. Compass for the heading. So all that seems to be required is the knob, an input for the CDI/GS and a left-right output for an AP! (Like it’s that simple!
) Icing on the cake would be automatic course tuning from the GPS (if such a thing exists). Also and even better would be a flight director (not the highway in the sky junk but a real FD cue).
That said and all the work on your part aside. I believe that would complete all the necessary components for a well built IFR sweet. If you can deliver this then builders would not be required to invest in vacuum systems, HSI’s or separate indicators. Therefore greatly reducing cost and complexity of building as well as increasing reliability (at least in the AHRS department).
Any hoo, just and idea but if you would build one I would buy it and I bet others would too.
