While I appreciate that Dynon's main client base is the USA and you serve that well, there are a good few places in the world that are not well covered by available "Skyview Compatible" charts.

It is quite possible to have standard VTC, WAC and Sectional Charts digitised and Geo-Referenced, we were doing this with truck fleet management systems 15 years ago.

Certainly, these charts will not do the clever things that the "official" Dynon charts do in the USA, but for us users in other parts of the world, the ability to see our current standard VFR charts, behind our route, with controlled and restricted airspace, would be very useful.

Any chance of letting us upload our own digital VFR charts, at our own risk of course! :D

Processing charts to be usable in a situation like this is a lot more than just scanning a chart. You need to break it into tiles of specific lat/long sizes, and you need multiple resolution sets as you zoom out. This is done to reduce processing and memory requirements in a flight-critical device like SkyView. A country the size of the USA ends up with about 30,000 files and 3GB of data for a single chart for the country.

To do that individually is an enormous amount of work, and when you are done you can't even give it to your friend since it's all copyrighted data.

Given that, we continue to focus on actually getting professional, pre-made data to our users. Just because the USA is the first country we support doesn't mean it is the last. Observe our progress with all map features: Aviation data was USA only, then we added Jepp and PocketFMS. Approach charts were USA, then we added PocketFMS. We just did enroute charts in the USA...

If we really do have a lot of requests from users that believe they can source their own digital charts then we can consider ways to help.

I realize the obstacles you're facing outside of the US. Apparently you use vector "maps" and raster "charts". Living in Austria and flying all over Europe, I would certainly love for Dynon to offer a similar level of charting support over here as in the US.

So, plus 1 on the cheers for charts over here!

Chris, we have full support for vector maps in Australia, from either Jeppesen or PocketFMS. This is the data that gives you airspaces, airports, VORs, obstacles, and more.

PocketFMS does have approach plates and airport diagrams in Australia and NZ as well, so you have support for that.

What we don't yet have a good source in AUS for is enroute charts (Sectionals in USA terminology). But we just announced having those in the USA yesterday, so it's not like the dust has settled.

Realize that Dynon is not a data provider- we support data from other providers. There's no way we can afford to do all the work required to license, process, and distribute data for a country like Australia all by ourselves, given the number of customers in that country. So we need to find a data partner who can amortize all that work over multiple avionics platforms.

Hello Dynon,

We have, in France, the possibility to buy a CD with IGN Charts (ECW format), very practical for us. It would be great to upload this Charts on our Skyview. There is a lot of GPS witch allow this functionality today. They created an "import IGN menu", you click and the upload is automatic.

I fully understand that could be hard work to fulfil Sylvain's request, but it's more or less standard fonctionality on European Moving Map GPS.
Could you at least put it on your to do list.

Well, I thought about adding a hint involving the absence of cangaroos in AUSTRIA vs. Australia.... Anyway, I know you have vector charts for austria and aviation data from Pocket FMS. What I am pushing for (being the usual impatient want-it-all kinda guy) is the equivalent of US sectionals and approach charts.

Thank you, -- Chris.
