Because of the routing of my GPS wire bundle, I need to splice the old into the new, with a very short connection to the new GPS puck. Is there any reason why I can't join the wires in DB9 connectors?

A DB9 is fine to join those wires.

I received my GPS 2020 on Friday and installed it today, spliced the wires about 8" from the GPS puck and everything works great. Life is good!
This is with my antenna in the FWF area looking up through my fiberglass cowl, inside a closed hangar. No problem getting a good satellite lock.
