Hi fabjab,

The EMS-D10 does not have an internal backup battery like the EFIS-D10 line of products.

No internal battery...okay, so at what voltage does the unit die and reboot? Isn't it possible for the voltage in a 12V system to drop low enough during starting to cause this?

It would not do to have no engine gauges available to monitor engine health at startup.

My experience is that the EMS does "black out" while the starter is engaged and cranking the engine, but as soon as you release the starter switch, the display is back and working. There is no appreciable "boot-up" time that I have noticed. I start the engine, and look at the EMS once it has caught, and watch the oil pressure come up on the display. So while the unit does go Black during the actual cranking, I have not found this is any sort of a problem.

Best Regards,

The EMS-D10 will work down to 10 Volts, and as Mr. Jordan mentioned, this does cause the unit to shut down on some 12V airplanes while cranking the engine. The boot time on the EMS is very quick and we have not had any complaints about getting needed information right after engine start.
