Hv Jabiru 3300 in a Zenith Zodiac CH601XL & a D10 Hv a Tach connection question. Initial connection was via 30K resistors & P Leads. Did not get a Tach reading during cranking. Spoke with Jabiru rep abt Tach connection. They said use Alternator lead connected to Lf RPM (Wh/Gn wire) and the # cyls set to 6 as the Alt has 12 stators. . Did that. Still do not get a Tach reading during crank. All other Temps, press, etc OK. Just no Tach reading. Have not started engine yet. Jabiru thinks engine has to be running to get reading. Anyone else run into this situation? Is Jabiru correct? Hd plug out of engine during cranking, so RPM was around 100+. The D10 manual states use 'white' wire for Alternator connection. The Regulator from Jabiru has 'Blue' wires. Just a note. Appreciate any assistance.

The "white wires" mentioned are white where they come off the alternator. They are actually covered in black protective insulating but they are white underneath. They are the wires that then connect to the blue wires at the regulator plug. So despite the colour change those are still the ones they are talking about.

I would guess that it's expected to not get a reading during crank. We need a 10V pulse to read RPM, and there's a good chance your alternator can't produce 10V at 100RPM, especially since the field strength is way down due to the battery voltage sag with the starter load.

Thanks for the info. Plan to start next week. Will let you know the results on the Tach.
