Hi Guys,

I am setting up my aircraft for a fairly serious water crossing. I have a King KR87 ADF which I am going to fit as a backup nav unit, along with a GTN750 and two Skyview GPS modules. But there are still a lot of NDB procedures in use in my part of the world, so why not, since I already have it.

I also already own two fully serviceable indicators, a KI 227, which is manually set to compass heading, and a KI 229 which is capable of being a fully slaved RMI and VOR indicator.

To slave the KI 229 I need a remote compass, which I don't have, the King version of which is not cheap and quite heavy. The KI 229 is, however compatible with other compasses which output the correct Airinc 429 string.

While I will be quite happy with the KI 227, if there was a good way of slaving the 229 I would look at it. I would be interested in any suggestions from someone who has set up a KI 229 with any other cheaper, lighter, compass
