Knob on the AP74 vs the knob on the HS34

Assuming one is using a GPSMAP 496 and an SL30.

Will the knob on the AP74 provide the same functionality as the knob on the HS34?

If not, what functionality would be missing?

The value knob lets you set baro, the heading bug, alt bug, and IAS bug. This is true on both the HS34 and the AP74. The only difference is that the HS34 has a dedicated heading knob and doesn't use the value knob for heading.

You cannot set the course (OBS) with the AP74. So without an HS34, you will still use the OBS on the SL-30 to adjust course. Without an HS34, you'd be required to go into the HSI soft menu on the EFIS to change nav and bearing sources.
