Latest firmware - D6 - need to have EDC-D10A?

I had temporarily installed my D6, but have not yet installed the EDC unit in the wingtip (wings aren't on at this time). Do I need to have the EDC-D10A installed and connected before doing an upload of the latest firmware, or can I do it without that connected (be nice to check the upload procedure on the bench, instead of after getting everything installed several months from now).

TIA

Steve:
You do not have to have the EDC-D10A connected to the EFIS-D6 to perform a firmware update. If the EDC-D10A is connected, it will also be updated.

So just to be clear...when I *do* hook up the EDC-D10A, in a few months, do I need to then re-upload the new firmware? Or will it automagically be uploaded to the device from the D6 (as my SkyView did when I hooked up the transponder this week)?

TIA!

Technically speaking, the EDC-D10A does need to be connected during an update for it to receive the new code. Unlike SkyView, the EFIS can not update modules autonomously. Now, the good news is that even though the version number has changed, the EDC code hasn't actually changed in forever. Basically, if you have a D6 and the EDC came with it, it has the "latest" actual code.

But if you want the version numbers to match as far as the support program displays, you'd need to run an update with the EDC connected.
