I'm trying to get a handle on how to create a flight plan on my new (to me) system. I have dual SV D1000T and Garmin GTN625. I understand one can load a flight plan created in Foreflight into SV. I do not have and have no intention of getting Foreflight. I use WingX Pro, Avare and FltPlan.com. Can one create a flight plan in any of them and upload it to the Garmin or SV? Any other way? I'm not crazy about hand loading flight plans if I can avoid it. Just learning, so be gentle.

You can use several different programs to create a flight plan which will load directly into the Skyview. They are just text files. The key is the program needs to save the flight plan you created in .GPX format. If you create and save a flight plan in .GPX format on a USB stick all you need do is plug that into the USB port on the Skyview. On the Skyview go to MAP>FPL>Import flight plan. You will see the flight plan you created (but not the .GPX extension). Click Import. Works great. The Import feature will only show you files with the .GPX extension so even if your USB stick has many files of different types, it will show you only the flight plans. I save every flight plan I create. Because they are so small you could save thousands before space would ever be a problem. You will never have to re-enter a flight plan you have previously created.

For what it's worth, the $99 subscription to ForeFlight has many uses. It is great for flight planning, getting a briefing, filing a flight plan, weather research with all the weather data available in the app, etc. Plus you can easily upload the flight plan to SkyView. You also have a full database of all the airport information and a full set of charts available at all times. It really is great software. I fly many trips where each day is a new day to places I have never been before. Having this tool along makes the next day's planning easy and you can do it anywhere if you have the iPad with the phone data subscription. I wouldn't be without it.

Interesting. I see a number of .GPX creation programs that I guess I'll have to explore.
I don't have any Apple products.
