Lost OAT sensor input

My EFIS D10A install went great. I have the OAT, EDC D10, internal battery, and xpndr serial to parallel converter.

When I installed the EDC D10, I accidentally put it in backwards (the connector facing aft instead of forward). However, everything worked fine from the OAT and all else, just the heading was 180 degrees off. After reading more in the manual, I realized I needed to simply turn the EDC around 180 degrees. Then the problem started.

I unplugged the EDC, turned it around, and plugged it back in. I turned on the unit and everything worked (heading indicates correctly) but I got a message "OAT Sensor not found". I turned everything off, unplugged the EDC and found that one of the pins on the female connector had backed out (it was never pushed in fully). I pushed it in all the way until it clicked, plugged everything in and now I can't get the OAT info to come up. I have verified the on the Menu under OAT that installed = Y. Everything else works normally, I just can't get the OAT info to come back up. Any ideas? I am on software version 2.07, I haven't upgraded yet. Is there a way to reboot the information so it can find the OAT probe again?

Thanks,

Rusty

Rusty,

Unplugging or plugging in the EDC with the EFIS powered has a very high chance of damaging the OAT. It has to do with the order that all of the pins in the connector end up making contact. This can occur even if you don't think the EFIS is "on." It can occur anytime the EFIS has any kind of power, which can come from "keep alive" power. It will not happen as long as no power is going into the EFIS and the EFIS is turned off.

We know about this problem and are working on a solution for it, but it is always a very good idea to make sure that the EFIS doesn't have any form of power before plugging or unplugging anything connected to it.

Give us a call at 425-402-0433 to get your OAT replaced.
