Guess I should have dug in a little deeper. On another thread I found a nice description of the sensor config file, which I never had to decode until now. So I'll answer my own question:
1.00 V = 6.99" Hg
1.07 V = 15.06" Hg
1.53 V = 20.46" Hg
2.35 V = 30.11" Hg (what my sensor should have put out when I measured 1.53V).
Apologies to anyone who wasted time chasing this while I made my logbook entries...but in case someone else searches for this, now it's written down.
Time to order a new MAP sensor...
