Mounting D Sub plug

I bulding an RV6 with a D100 & D120, & have almost completed the wiring.

Being an older generation I am not familiar with D sub miniaure plug hardware, so plse excuse my antiquity.

I wouldlike to mount my RS232 output  sub 9 plug into the panel.  Is that doable If so what hardware do I need? Plse use mechanical engineering terminlogy I am not an avionics person.

I am thinking the same thing as you Graham,

I plan to do this after I get flying, but the plan is:
I will cut neat holes through the panel for the plugs, slightly oversize to suit the male DB9 - USB plug converter.
Disassemble the plug cases and remove the standard affixing hardware (used for securing them to a computer etc.)
Match drill holes in the panel to suit the plug case's hole centers.
Attach the plugs from the back of the panel using small screws and locking nuts to fit, available from any hardware store. You may need to file back the front edge of the plug's case to get a flush surface to mount against the back of the panel - do this with the plug case disassembled.
Placard the plugs for D100 and D120.

The standard DB9 - USB plug converter which Dynon sells (or available from any good electronics store) should have a long enough male plug to pass through your panel, provided the hole is fractionally larger than the male plug.

This allows direct connection to a laptop in the cabin, without fiddling with wires behind the panel.
