mounting the remote magnetometer

I have an RV-7A that is using 3 EFIS systems, including Dynon.

I am attempting to mount my remote magnetometers behind the baggage compartment, fastened to a plate at the top rib, under the skin.  The problem I am having with using this location is that I currently have the mags (I have 3 to mount - the sideways Dynon is causing me the biggest fit problem) mounted a foot aft of the nutplates that hold the aft baggage compartment.   This space is tapered, with more room left-to-right as I move fwd.  If I can move the Dynon mag to within about 6" of the nutplates (see arrows on pic), the fit will be much better.   If you recommend keeping more than 6" from the nutplates, and the screws that will go in them, then I will have to find another place to mount the Dynon mag.   What is the minimum distance I need to keep the mag from these 2 nutplates & screws?   Also, are there any issues about how close a mag is mounted to another mag?

Here is a pic of how I've got it clamped up right now:

Well, I can't figure out how to insert a pic, so here is a link to it on my web site:

That's a lot of glass!

We generally recommend at least 12" between the remote magnetometer and other ferrous metals or powered equipment. From the picture you sent, it looks like you'll be alright. Even if you move the Dynon magetometer a few inches forward you'll likely still be OK. Essentially, dynamic magnetic fields and moving metal (moving gyros, strobes, etc) are the worst for the magnetometer's accuracy and calibration. Small, static pieces of ferrous metal are easier to calibrate out.

Proximity to other mags should not be an issue.

Funny this should come up...I got my D100 sportpak yesterday....Cool, now I play fighter video game in front of the TV!

Anyway

The magnetometer mounting instructions say to avoid anything ferrous like screws and such...So I was about to start searching for brass #4 screws to mount the D9 connector and realised the D9 housing itself is ferrous.

Seems to me a couple of small steel screws won't make much difference...Is that correct?

You are correct. Very small bits of stationary ferrous metal such as the D9 screws will not likely trememdously affect the magnetometer. You can use the steel screws that typically would come with those connectors.
