New Product Suggestion for Skyview

Two ideas. First, it seems that only 5 serial ports could eventually pose a problem. So imagine a USB dongle with a DB9 connector and software support in the Skyview for 4 more serial inputs via that ?

Second. That poses the problem that USB ports are scarce. I have always found the one from the wiring harness to be problematic/intermittent. So I attached an extension cable from one of the two ports on the back and secured it in the glove box. I leave a stick in it all the time for taking snapshots and downloading flight data after every flight. And I use that connector for database uploads.

But some have USB video-in and there is the new USB WIFI dongle. And the external chart stuff. And who knows what else someone will think of!

So we are running out of USB ports! Need a dongle and software support that adds 3 or 4 more.

Love my Skyview! RV-12 N412BR "Sweetie"

Bill,
What serial device would you like to attach? We don't have any more serial devices on the horizon, and the only people we know of that have run out generally have a Vertical power device and a COM radio attached, and then want to do something else like GPS out to an ELT, so it's pretty rare. In every one of those cases we know of, it can be solved with an inexpensive GPS for the ELT. If we do end up with more serial devices that push lots of installs over the edge, we do have ways to mitigate that, but we don't see the need to deal with that until the time comes.

In our mind, if you are using all 5, we planned it perfectly!

If you run out of USB ports, you can use any USB hub you can find. No software support or anything needed. It's the magic of USB!

That's great about the USB. Any guidance regarding powered vs. unpowered hub vs. the kinds of devices? At this point it's just flash drives and the Wifi. A camera would already have its own power supply.

You don't need a powered hub. All the ports in SkyView share the same power, so if you could plug all the devices in the three USB ports on SkyView, you can plug them into one hub as well.
