No initial boot on power-up, 3-finger reset

Had an interesting "event" today...on first powering up the aircraft, the Skyview did not boot up. I do not have an avionics master, so the Master switch turns on all avionics. I just got a "dark" screen (it had power to it, as I could tell it got darker when I reset it, so the pixels were on, just black). A 3-finger reset and everything was fine, no issues at all for the entire 1-hour flight or the subsequent power-up after refueling.

Not sure this is an issue, perhaps a transient event, but thought I'd throw it out there for discussion and troubleshooting suggestions.

What version of SkyView are you running, and is there a backup battery connected?

Regardless, if it happens once ever, it could be an odd transient, as you've said. But if it happens again, give us a call to get some help from our tech support staff.

Also, know that if this does happen, the system will auto-detect a not-correctly powered up state and reboot itself after about 20 seconds, even if you don't do it manually.

The latest software has been installed to all components (5.whatever). Backup battery installed and charged.

This is during early flight testing, so I'll let you know if it happens again (as well as waiting for an auto-restart if it does).

Thanks!

Did it again, but as you said, just waiting it out and it did cycle and come back up correctly after about 30s.

But oddly, it only did it again once, it's not doing it every time.

Do you have multiple copies of the boot code and/or executable image in memory? If this were one of my systems at work, it would make me think it's trying more than one boot image until it finds one that is valid, but I don't know if you have multiple images or not.

No, it's not a multiple boot image issue. The system just has a low level routine that detects if the system doesn't fully boot, and resets it after a while.

If you disconnect the battery, does that solve it? Regardless, we may need to see the display here to fix it.

I'll try it with a disconnected battery next time I'm at the hangar. It's not every time (only twice so far, including a gazillion power-ups during construction), so I don't know what the cause might be. I can live with it as is *for a while* if it's only occasionally, but sending it back will take the aircraft offline which I can't do at the moment.

Will see what happens with no backup battery and post results.

BTW, this has only happened *since* upgrading to 5.x, so I don't know if that helps your diagnosis. This is a new behavior not seen with version 3 or 4.

It would be interesting to know whether or not the issue increases in frequency, as well. Do let us know the results of disconnecting the battery.
