I just got of the phone with customer support. Talked with a guy named Mike.

I got the feeling that I was wasting his time.....he interuped me several times while I was trying to explain my question and did not listen to my instalation discription fully before interupting me and saying I dont understand what you are asking..... :(

I am using a non-dynon adsb reciever (GDL-39) if interested the reason is found here http://dynonavionics.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1427740035/0#0.

The Skyview instalation doc says on page 11-19 and 11-20

If an SV-ADSB-470 is not installed and configured, the following settings are accessible:

NONE - Set to NONE if there is no ADS-B IN equipment on board.

1090 MHz ES - Use this option if there is (non-Dynon) ADS-B IN equipment on board that recieves on 1090 MHz.

978 MHz UAT - Use this option if there is (non-Dynon) ADS-B IN equipment on board that recieves on 978 MHz.
I was told that it does not apply to me.  :-?

The GDL-39 receives both.

I would assume None is the incorrect answer but I would like to know the functional differences between the two other settings.

Sorry you didn't get the support you needed (and deserve). That setting is affects what the transponder tells the ground ADS-B stations about your ADS-B in receiving equipment as it pertains to traffic (TIS-B). So you definitely don't want to say NONE. That will cause the system to think that you don't have ADS-B in capability, and you won't get a robust traffic portrait at all.

Since you're dual band, you can technically select either of these, and the aggregation of all of the traffic that the ADS-B system knows about will be sent to you over that frequency. We'd recommend that you select 978 MHz. One reason is that the FAA would prefer to keep the traffic on 1090 kept to a minimum (UAT exists in part to accommodate the GA fleet once it's fully equipped). For what it's worth, FIS-B (weather) is only (and always) broadcast via 978. You'll get that regardless of this setting as long as you have a 978 Mhz receiver on board. This setting only concerns the traffic portion of the ADS-B service.
