I see that Van's has changed the shell on the 9 pin D sub that hooks to the magnetometer. What about the D sub itself, which has a ferrous metal wrapping? Can you buy a non ferrous, female, 9 pin D sub?

You can get D-sub shells at Radio Shack, in addition to the big on-line parts distributors. A word of caution - do not use the "metalized" shells from Radio Shack. They are junk and easily fall apart, but I haven't had any trouble with the non-metalized ones.

Thanks Sam, but I'm not talking about the shell. It's the metal wrap that is around the 9 pin D sub connector itself. You know, the wrap with the metal ears that stick out the ends of the receptical and support the D sub when it is mounted, with, or without, the shell. That is the metal wrap that is a ferrous material. I was hoping for one made with an aluminum wrap.

I did get a response from one of the RV guys, who said that this small amount of stationary ferrous metal would not interfere with the magnetometer. Hope he's right!

We agree - small, static amount of non-magnetized ferrous metal as described shouldn't affect things.
