Null Modem connector

From my reading of the EMS manual I need a null modem connector and a gender bender in order to connect the EMS D10 to the EFIS D100...is that correct or will theis be interconnected (for screen swapping) through the DSAB interface?

By the way what exactly does a NMC do?...can't I simply find a serial cable with two male ends on it to interconnect the two instruments?

Thanks

Frank,
Eventually they will talk to one another over DSAB. For now, if you want to connect them you will need a null modem.

A null modem swaps pins 2 & 3 between the cables. This allows transmit of one device to go to recieve of the other and vice versa. Without this, the two transmits and two recieves are hooked to one another, and that just won't work!

Cool so presumably i can just make a little jumper cable that does the same thing??

The null modem does some pin rearranging so that two RS-232 devices can talk directly to each other. Since null modems are typically male on one end and female on the other, you'll need an appropriate gender changer since both the EFIS's and EMS's serial connectors are female.

Right so a little intermediate cable with a male connector on each end that connects the transmit and receive together for each unit and voila!

Just yank this cable out when doing software updates.

Cool

Correct.

The only wires you need connected are:
Pin 2-3
Pin 3-2
Pin 5-5
