OAT and altitude way off,

I installed the temperature probe so I could get true airspeed on my Flightdeck 180. Took a pic. of my panel yesterday when around 2,000'. Panel shows 7,840' and 144 degrees F. Once in awhile the altitude is close to correct, but never the OAT. The probe pokes out of the belly of my LongEZ. Any idea's? Thanks, Bob

The density altitude altitude in that widget is dependent on correct OAT, so if OAT is wrong that will be too. So OAT is fundamentally the issue.

Which OAT do you have (is it connected through the EDC-D10A or the EMS 37 pin harness? Does OAT respond to heat at all? Grabbing it with your hand should be enough to move it if it's not 100 degrees out.

If you have the one connected to the EDC-D10A, make sure that under the EFIS menu, SETUP > OAT is set to type 2, but that NONE of your EMS GP (general purpose) inputs are set to OAT. Conversely, if you have it connected to the EMS general purpose inputs, make sure the EFIS menu OAT is set to none and that the appropriate EMS GP input is set to OAT.
