I like to do a compass swing every few months. This has become more important because the heading values are now used for wind calculations and small errors can cause huge problems in the wind calculation. The other value that obviously impact on the wind calculation and that has me thinking about the TAS calculation again, is the OAT.
From the installation manual's recommendation to fit the OAT probe somewhere in the aircraft skin, I am making the assumption that the probe is designed to be in the free air stream and that the software calculates the RAM air rise based on IAS, subtracts this from the measured value and the displayed value is an adjusted value for static air temperature.
Could you please confirm my logic? This would obviously impact on TAS as well as wind calculations.
