OAT Not Found

When powering up the Dynon the message "OAT NOT FOUND" is displayed. With OAT/PA/TAS selected for the right side INFO box, only 59º F is shown. We have the type 2 probe. If the probe is unplugged then reconnected, the temperature counts up to the actual outside temperature briefly then returns to 59º. What's wrong? Could we have a bad probe? Also, in the setup mode we do not find the OATADJ option when paging through MORE options. Help, please!

A bad probe is a possibility but unlikely. The type 2 probes have been extremely reliable so far.

Is this a new behavior on an OAT that used to work, or has the OAT never worked? If this is a new OAT installation and it has never worked, I would suspect that the firmware on the EFIS and EDC are not in sync. To troubleshoot this, you can uploading the newest firmware to the EFIS (with the EDC connected) using the latest version of the support program off our website.

OATADJ only appears when you do not have an OAT probe installed. Its purpose is to allow you to key in an OAT in absence of a probe so that DA/TAS can still be calculated based on your inputted temperature value. So that behavior is expected. When working correctly, the probe-based displayed OAT value can be adjusted for accuracy in the OAT setup menu, though usually no adjustment needs to be dialed in.

Finally, you should make sure that the remote compass is connected. The quick test: take a magnet - a headset works well - and wave it around the remote compass. If the heading display moves, the EDC is connected and working. If not, I'd probably troubleshooting with the compass wiring

Thanks for the quick response. This is a new installation (SeaRey) and the OAT display hasn't worked since start up. We'll check the remote compass and related wiring plus get the latest firmware updates.
