OAT reading -43C

I just installed my EDC-10A module and the temperature sensor.  When connected to the D180 (with 5.0) software, the OAT reading is -43C.  I'm pretty sure it's not that cold here!  And this is obviously not within the parameters required to use the manual calibration.  The remote compass seems to be working fine, I've made sure all GP inputs are set to nothing, and I selected "1" for the probe type since it has the black band.  I can't find any other instructions about troubleshooting in the manual to figure out what the problem could be. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

A black band OAT should be tyoe 2, not type 1, so that's the first thing to start with.

It is a three wire probe, not a 2, correct?
