Offset track

With my GTN 750 I can easily set a track offset, say two miles right of the direct GPS ground track, and the aircraft will automatically fly that, avoiding aircraft following the same track in the opposite direction, so long as the 750 is the selected GPS nav source.

I can't seem to see how to set the system to do the same thing using the SV-GPS-250 as the nav source. Can it do so and if so how?

I have looked through the manual, but perhaps I am missing something.

If it can't do it now, could this be a future feature?

This is not currently a feature of the SkyView. While this is a required feature for certified navigators, there has always been some question as to how much use it actually gets.

As to whether it gets added in the future, that likely depends on how many requests we get for it. We appreciate your feedback.

Eric

Hi Eric

Can't speak for anyone else, but I use the feature the whole time, usually a mile right of track at low level and a couple of miles if I plan going higher. Even VFR it allows a better view of landmarks enroute, out of the left window.

It also provides another layer of separation when you have someone else out on a GPS guided Sunday jaunt, not paying attention to altitude or what is approaching head on.

I have several times been passed on a direct, but offset, track, by an aircraft at the same level, going the opposite way at a closing speed of perhaps 250 knots.

More pucker factor than a man really needs!

By the way a couple of my current airline pilot mates tell me that, for a lot of airlines, an offset to the right is now SOP, since nav systems are so good at following a track. A couple of B767 pilots have told me that the GPWS can ping off as aircraft go directly under them on reciprocal tracks. The systems are that accurate. Not necessarily a really good thing!

Gps track offsets are encouraged here by our Aviation Authority, many people do & I've been using it for years. Much harder to have a collision when everyone uses a small track offset between commonly used waypoints & tracks ;)

Thanks for the input guys, we'll put it on the requested feature list.
