Hello Dynon,
I do have another type of issue when attempting to upgrade the software of my D180.
I tried several times with different PCs and different windows, and I always get the same result.
The PC detects the device.
It tries to connect to the device, starting with COM 4. It fails and swaps to COM 3. It fails to connect.
I am still with 4.1 and I cannot save the configuration or upgrade it to the latest version. Any idea Dynon or someone  :-?
Thanks for your help.

You first have to get the USB to Serial Adapter working with your particular laptop and installation of Windows, which can be problematic at times.

Check the "Device Manager" in Windows - look at "Ports (COM & LPT). There should be a line under that "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMx)" - if there's a red Exclamation point, there is a problem loading the driver software.

Unfortunately, sometimes, it's just not possible, for unknown reasons, to get the USB to Serial Adapter working on a particular laptop PC.

Dynon will perform firmware upgrades at no cost (other than return shipping). To arrange for a Return Material Authorization (RMA), please call or email Dynon Technical Support.

Etienne - Assuming the Dynon screen never goes to the yellow loading screen, that usually means that the transmit line that goes to the EFIS has a break or other issue. Essentially, the support program can see the EFIS's data stream, but can't talk back.

Also, note that the "instrument" detected message in the support program doesn't look very hard at the serial data. It's mostly looking for ANY serial data stream. So it's possible that another device that's connected via serial can fool the support program (we used to tell people to disconnect their Palm Pilots, if you can remember what those are) into looking like an EFIS. So disconnect any other serial devices if you have them connected to the computer.
