I am seeing a large variation in heading as various electrical components are turned on. The remote compass is mounted in the tail not near any electrical wiring. I am seeing the following:
Heading 192
Turn on strobe: Changes to 189
Turn on nav:Changes to 190
Turn on Landing lights: Changes to 189
Turn on AP: 0 change
Turn on Panel Lights: Changes to 193
Turn on all Changes to 164
Turn off power and battery backup unit reads 184

Any suggestions on what is causing it.

Is this a D10A, D100, or D180?

If it's a D10A, your remote compass may not be working, and it may be using the internal compass. Try holding your headset (has a magnet in it) near the D10A. If the heading moves, it's not using the remote compass.

Given that, it probably is a magnetic field that is being generated by something nearby. If you can get a normal compass in the vicinity of the remote compass itself, you may be able to confirm that there is interference in the area.

As for specifics, what is the closest powered device or wire to the EDC-D10A? And how far away is it from the EDC?

Also, where is the battery in the plane? Is it in the tail as well?

Battery is infront of firewall. I will check on the wiring near the D10a but the only wiring back there is for the nav light.
