Rate of turn indicator on D6

I have received my D6 and have been bench testing before installation. It seems that the magenta rate of turn bar settles at about 1/4 full scale, right turn, when the instrument is just sitting on the desk without moving. If I rotate the instrument left or right, the magenta bar moves to the left or right in proportion to the turn rate, but it does not park at zero when the turn stops. I have the D10A remote magnetometer connected but not calilbrated.
All else seems fine, as near as I can tell.
Is this a defect?

The unit has the ability to self-correct for "drift" in the sensors that determine turn rate, and one artifact of this can be some erroneous turn rate when powered on on the ground during installation/testing/playing. Withing a few hours of actual flying it should go back to neutral. If it doesn't we can send you a file that will force reset it. We can actually do that now, if you want, but you'll need to call or email tech support for it.

Thanks for the info. I will just get the thing installed in the plane and after flying see if the rate of turn corrects itself for drift.

Hello all. My first post and happy to be here. Took delivery of a new D6 today and plan on installing it in a motorglider I own tomorrow. I have also noted that the rate of turn appears to stick when "yawing" the instrumnmt on a test bench, ie "playing" with the unit pre-instalation. On left yaws it returns smartly to neutral when the yaw ceases, but with right yaws of the instrument it returns to a 1/4 scale right indication and remains there. Would be interested in the file to reset this. Thanks in advance, Mike.

OK, thanks for the prompt response. I will e-mail support and have the file sent to me in the event the unt does not self correct. BTW Harvey, did your D6 self-heal during flight or did you install the file? Mike.

Put the unit into my ship today and flew an hour. Looks like the yaw rate was markedly less than in the beginning, so optimistic all will be well. I was also finding that the pitch attitude after steep turns was initially inaccurate but after 40 mins was also more accurate, go figger  :D
