I have a D100 and D120, microair radio and transponder, and an avmap geopilot II+ in my panel.  Of course there are switches and circuit breakers on the panel as well.

My question is, can I mount my remote compass hanging off my D100 mounting tray and have reliable compass readings?  Mounting it to the tray would assure proper alignment with the D100 unit.  The only question left is would it be affected by any current being carried through the wires and would it be affected by the radio. The remote compass would be situated next to the radio itself. What do you think?

Wouldn't recommend it. The panel is generally a very noisy place, magnetically.

Let's put it this way: The original EFIS-D10 and EFIS-D10A have internal magnetometers, the idea being that for people that have magnetically clean enough panels, why make them bother with the expense and hassle of the remote compass? Turns out, basically no one has a clean enough panel. None of the EFIS-D100, EFIS-D60, or FlightDEK-D180 even have magnetometers in the unit any more.
