Remote compass not detected

I have a FlightDEK-D180 and the ECD-D10A, S/N 4650, Remote Compass. I just hooked up the remote and I'm getting an intermittant "Remote compass not detected" message. I tugged on the wires and couldn't get the message to repeat based on wire movement. It seems very random and the unit is NOT detected more than it IS detected. So, I removed the sockets from the connector and placed them directly onto the pins in the compass. No difference. Then, I cut off the sockets on the harness and replaced them. No difference. Any ideas?

Oh and by the way, I'm using the Dynon supplied harness, not my own.

You just need to update the firmware on your FlightDEK-D180 (even if you're already running the latest) WITH the EDC-D10A connected. You see this behavior when the FlightDEK-D180 and the EDC are out of sync on firmware versions.
