Hello Dynon,
we operate an RV8 with D100, D10 and EMS. Whilst the backseater has a GPS it would be great to have some more info back there - just to monitor - no need to enter or search pages - any ideas?

Henrik:

We suggest installing in the rear seat:

EFIS-D6, or
EFIS-D10A, or
EFIS-D60, or
EFIS-D100

We suggest not connecting them to the cockpit instruments via DSAB and operate them standalone. If you do connect the rear instrument via DSAB, it's possible to change settings on the rear unit that will affect the cockpit instruments - example, BARO.

You can often find EFIS-D10A and EFIS-D100 used - lots of our customers for SkyView are selling their older Dynon gear.

Thanks for that suggestion - depth of the equipment is the real issue in the RV8 back seat.
If a stand alone D100 is fitted could it still use the same inputs from remote compass and Pitot for example?

So actually, you'd need to have pitot/static connected to those instruments as well. You know, another alternative would be to use one of our EMS products. They're less expensive, but you'll still have the panel space issue. You wouldn't use the engine monitor side of things, and you wouldn't get redundancy in the flight instruments. But an EMS-D10 or EMS-D120 can be essentially used as a second "slave" display for an EFIS. All you'd need to connect are power/ground and two DSAB wires.

SkyView's display, which are much thinner than our first generation of products, are designed with exactly this scenario in mind. Unfortunately, they can't be connected with our first generation EFIS products.

While I've sold my Sky Arrow with the D180, I just poked in to see if Dynon had any new products.

I'm pretty disappointed that they still haven't a solution for tandem seat aircraft (was thinking of one for my glider).

I made a suggestion for a back seat repeater screen 4 years ago. Dynon just said flat "NO". Looks like the demand is still here but the response is still the same.

Too Bad.

So we addressed this with SkyView's design by breaking out the ADAHRS and EMS modules, which gets SkyView's display depth down to about 2". This lets it be used in a lot of tandem installations and panels that had depth problems with our D10/D100 series.

As for the decision to not make a "dummy" thin display for the D10/D100 series: Start with the assumption that the market for such a product is much smaller than the core products themselves. Then add to that there is significant engineering work here, both in mechanicals and electronics. What you end up with (trust us, we've done the math) is a product that we'd need to sell for as much or possibly even MORE (remember, lower volume) than the base product. And at those prices, it's a nonstarter to the customer.

So while we simply can't make every possible product to make everyone's aircraft dream panel(s) perfect, we do invest heavily in the core products that keep the lights on here and keep many of you delighted. Thanks for your continued support!
