I thought others might be interested in the mod I made to the SkyView DB37 harness.  The harness includes a USB cable with a type A female connector, but it's fairly long and isn't conducive to being mounted anywhere.  Instead, I removed the preinstalled USB cable and installed an 18" USB 2.0 A M/F panel mount cable that I picked up off eBay for 99 cents.  Here are a couple of pictures of the finished product:

You can see that it's long enough to be panel mounted anywhere near the screen:

That looks good. I really think Dynon should initially supply the cable with a mounting bracket like that, as has been mentioned before.

Instead of re-wiring the cable, just plug this into either one of the USB connectors on the back of the panel, or the one that comes out as a cable.

That's basically the cable I bought, but I don't like the fact that it's only friction that would be holding the male connector in the back of the SkyView display.  I also like rewiring things  ;D

I do agree that Dynon should provide this sort of connector on the harness by default.

If you look at the back of the SkyView you will see a threaded boss just above the USB ports. This is tapped for a 6-32 screw if I remember correctly. The intent of this boss is to allow you to add a retainer for any USB cable you may plug into these ports. I have found you can easily use safety wire and a screw in this boss to secure any cable so it can't inadvertently come out of the port. Of course, you could also fabricate a retainer out of aluminum sheet and use this boss to secure it. Just a suggestion if you are concerned about using one of those two ports.
