Replacement For CS-02

I bought a CS-02 from AS and during the installation the wire connector broke off.  Grand Rapids was nice enough and replaced it and then while installing the second unit it also broke apart. See picture.

It seems that the design of this unit is very poor and that a slight tug on the three wires will break it off of from the sensor housing.  Once broken off the plastic "locking tabs" are broken and it cannot be reinstalled.  The wires are super small so I do not know if my soldering skills can fix it (the picture makes it look super big however the wires are really small).

I have run out of EMS sensor pins (only one left is PIN 31 WHT/ONG) so I cannot use the Dynon Amps Shunt unit so I would like to find a better/stronger replacement to the CS-02.

Has anyone had this issue with the CS-02?  Have you figured out how to strengthen the wire connector?

I was thinking about using heat shrink tubing to wrap around the connection to make it stronger however the 90 degree bend might not allow for the heat shrink to stay on.

Is the CS-01 design any stronger?

Is there another Hall Effect sensor that can be used in lieu of the CS-01?

THANKS for your help!!!

Please don't think I'm "piling on" here, I mean this post only to help you out...

Regardless of the fix for this problem, I don't know if you know that you should try to avoid soldering connections on an airplane. They're not absolutely proscribed, but generally, a crimped connection is preferred. Soldered wires tend to break unless properly done and properly strain relieved, etc.

Are you running two amps measurements? The pins on the EMS for the Dynon amps shunt can only be used for the amps shunt so the only way to be out of pins is to have already used one in the system.

Has anyone used the McLagan Enterprises "High Accuracy Current Sensor"?

https://www.crazedpilot.com/brands/McLagan-Enterprises.html

They advertise it is compatible with SV and even list page 7-53 as the method to install it however that is the wrong page.

Does anyone have any feedback on this unit?

Yes. I have two electrical systems and each needs to be monitored by the EMS.

PINS 24 and 25 will monitor the larger system (60 AMS) and I wanted to use the CS-02 to monitor the smaller system (20 AMPS) because it essentially only needs to use one PIN and I have allotted PIN 31 for that purpose.

Sadly it seems that I cannot keep the CS-02 in one piece long enough to connect it up to the EMS...it is amazing how fragile the connector is.

THANKS

I'm using the AMP25 available here with good success.  Had to build my own characterization equation, but that was before Skyview supported the CS-02. It was not difficult.

I have had a CS-02 in my airplane for over 3yrs with no problem whatsoever. I don't understand how you could have had 2 of them break like that. Bad luck.
