Has anyone had any luck picking up a solid rpm signal from a P-lead installed on a sure fly magneto by just adding a resistor at a lower value than a reg slick mag i.e. <<50k?
i was hoping not to buy sure fly’s circuit board.

I don’t have the surefly but I researched it and know of one person who tried everything and wasn’t successful. Get the circuit board if you want a rpm indication.

That’s what I was afraid of but wanted to survey people to see what they’ve found. The surefly people said some Dynon users have had luck so I wanted to see if that’s true. Additionally Since I remove the resistor off the surefly mag, my right slick mag gives an erratic reading at random times fluctuating in and out and going to zero sometimes. Any ideas what that means? I noted the resistor I removed was only rated at 36,000. I thought they were supposed to be 50,000?

Sorry to pick up an old thread - I installed the Surefly 2 weeks ago - and with engine all is good - but as others, I don't have a RPM pickup from the Surefly. Several options in play - most of the stupid crazy expensive - Just wondering if I put in a Hall effect sensor on the remaining slick magneto - so I would in fact take 2 RPM's out of this one - one on the P-lead and one on the Hall effect (picking up while the engine runs only on the surefly ? any thoughts ?
