I have both in my panel. I now have the SL40 connected to my SV screens as one of my 5 serial connections. Getting to the point of closing up the wiring and questioning if it makes more sense to have the 650 connected on a serial port instead of the SL40?  If so which pins? The 650 is connected to the transponder & the ARINC.  The SL40 is rather basic and really a backup and I dont want to limit the functionality of the 650 or the SV.

No need to connect direct to a SV serial port, just wasting it for no benefit.
Connect the 650 direct to the Arinc Converter as per install manual however anotherserial port on the 650 needs to connect (with a 1.21k resistor) to the Tranponder direct. Set that 650 serial to Garmin ADSB + ;)

Hi Jake - i have the 1.21k resistor installed as u mention, but having not flown yet, i was not certain if that was the only connection that would get me all the flight and panel benefits that i have read about with the SV.  I have checked the latest install sections but wanted to make certain i didnt miss a connection before i put the top on my 7A.  Thanx for your help.

For the NAV and GPS sections of the GTN650, there's no advantage to connecting them to SkyView via serial port in addition to being connected via ARINC-429 (the SV-ARINC-429 module).

If you're hoping to display status of the COM section of the GTN650 on a SkyView display, and push frequencies to Standby on the COM section of the GTN650, that's not a capability that Garmin put into the GTN650.

Ok - having the 650 displayed on the top line ala the SL40 was one of my considerations.
I think that clears up all my wondering & questions.  Its connected to the ARINC and the transponder per the manual, so i just need to get it flying and start using it.  Getting closer now.  :)
Thanx Dynon & Jake
