I have a space problem for retrofitting a second EDC-10 with an EFIS D100 in my plane, now as I understand, the EDC-10 soemehow does talk serial with the EFIS? A serial line normaly can be split between two destinations, any idea, if that could work with one EDC-10 between two EFIS D10A and D100?

The communication is bi-directional and isn't standard serial, so it won't work.

If you hook the units up over DSAB, they will share the EDC.

Thanks a lot, as I anyway have DSAB already in use this is good enough for me. So I'm fine until I loose the Master with the EDC, has the D100 an internal magnetic ref too in such a case?

The D100 does not have an internal compass.

In this case, you must first calibrate the compass in the D10A with no DSAB or EDC connected (this is done in flight). You must then hook the EDC to the D100, and calibrate that. Then hook the D100 and D10A together, with the D100 as the master. Only with this process will the D10A still have a usable compass if the D100 fails.

Now, I'll be using two D-100s in my DC-3 also. I understand that I only need to use one EDC-10A if I am using DSAB. But, isn't the advantage of using two EDCs that I have redundancy? Or would you still recommend using only one?? Since I have them both, shouldn't I use them?

We would recommend installing both, for all the reasons you state.
