Shunt with an AeroElectric system

I am doing a HDX retro fit on my RV8. It was built back in 2000, and used the Aero Electric over voltage/crow bar system. Should I still use the Dynon Shunt?
I have checked with Aero E. but no response. If I did remove the overvoltage system, should I still use the Crow Bar?

The crow bar and ammeter shunt serve two distinctly different purposes. The shunt is for getting ammeter readings. The crow bar is for overvoltage protection. It's entirely up to you if you keep both.

Rhino, your answer made me think and I spent a few hours researching the shunt. All this time I thought the shunt was a form of circuit breaker-safety devise. It is nothing more than a measuring tool. The VM1000 I replaced used a donut type device to measure the load, and I assumed the current was measured in one of the mini boxes the Dynon system used. So really the original question becomes moot. Thanks for the help, I love learning something new.
