I have dual screens ( 10 in and 7 in) with matching battery back up. Fired these up and one battery (3 months old) does not charge at all, the other battery, 1 year old, charges to about 10.3 volts. When put on battery back up, display stays powered for less than 5 minutes. Is there a systemic issue with the back up batteries?

I've noticed the same thing. I think the problem is simply that the batteries will not charge unless the bus voltage is sufficiently high. If I fully charge the ship's battery, I will get a bit of charge in the SkyView batteries before the bus voltage drops enough that they stop charging. I expect that once the alternator is running, they'll develop a full charge pretty quickly.

SkyView will not charge the backup batteries until the ship's power is 12.25V or above. This is to reduce the load on your aircraft battery since charging the backup battery can double the load of the system.
You need the alternator online or a battery charger on the plane to get SkyView to charge.

SkyView only charges when the alternator is running so that your aircraft battery isn't drawn down to charge up SkyView. We've actually clarified the charging behavior in the most recent manual to better explain that. In short, for SkyView to charge, the input voltage must be above 12.24V You can see the charge state of the battery in SETUP>LOCAL DISPLAY SETUP>DISPLAY HARDWARE INFORMATION.
