Now, if we can use an iPhone and connect to the WiFi on SV, and just transfer the flight plan file directly...?

Remember that SkyVector is a web site, not an app, so it doesn't work without an active internet connection, so it's not as much an in-aircraft application. Which also leaves it with some challenges in writing to an in-airplane network device.

Yes, but an iPhone can get to a website from a great many places, as long as you have coverage and data roaming. I wouldn't use it for in-aircraft in-flight stuff, but from a hotel room the night before, build a flight plan, save it and then upload it via WiFi the next a.m....? Hmmmm....
