Skyview 1000 screen freezes multiple times

Up until yesterday, my Skyview 1000 has been operating wonderfully and trouble free (after troubleshooting early on with hardware issues Dynon has corrected). Yesterday my Skyview 1000 had multiple screen freezes. Each time after rebooting with buttons 1, 2 & 5, the Skyview screen would freeze almost instantly. Here is the sequence of events:

Taxiing out I took a screenshot. Skyview screen freezes after I push the two screenshot buttons and the "Screen shot in progress" message appears. I rebooted. Once rebooted, the screen froze pretty much instantly. I rebooted again and the screen froze again. I rebooted once again and it stayed. I departed the airport and as I was on downwind the screen froze again. I reached over and pulled the USB card out and the Skyview screen instantly came to life and operated normally for the duration of the 20 minute flight.

Here is a history of recent actions that might have something to do with this:

1. I updated the system with version 6.2 package.
2. Flew on two occasions with no issues.
3. On the second flight, I took multiple screenshots. Once on the ground I realized that I had not put the USB card in.
4. Upon arriving to the airport yesterday, I put the USB card in the slot so I wouldn't forget it again.
5. I ran the backup battery test. It passed.
6. A few hours later I went flying and the problems with screen freezes mentioned above happened.

My theory is that there is some issue with having taken the screenshots without the USB card installed and once installed, after attempting to capture a screenshot, the system froze.

Later that evening I looked at the USB card to see the screenshots that I had. None from the flight where I didn't have the USB card installed - I expected that. The one screenshot I attempted to capture when the Skyview froze was a blank white image of only 54k bytes. Typical images are 2.4 MB.

I will hopefully fly again today and see how the Skyview works with and without screenshots and the USB card and report back.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I made another flight today and here is what transpired with regards to the Skyview 1000:

1. I booted up the Skyview and started the engine as normal. I had already put the USB card in the port.

2. I took a screenshot and the Skyview froze immediately. The "taking screenshot" message appeared before that so I didn't realize it had frozen and waited a moment. Then I realized the screen had frozen so I rebooted. Same thing - frozen screen.

3. I took the USB card out and immediately the message said something to do with not enough space on the USB to store the image and the Skyview screen became unfrozen.

4. I put a different USB card in the port the took another screenshot. It took just a little bit longer than I expected but then the message screen disappeared and all seemed to be working fine, so, I went flying.

5. Took several more screenshots during the flight. They are all present on that USB drive and the Skyview had no issues during the whole flight.

6. Got home to see what was on the Dynon USB card. Another blank image at 54 K bytes. All the screenshots were fine on the other USB card.

7. I checked the remaining capacity of the Dynon USB card and it said 1.78 GB of space available - not sure why it wouldn't take a 2.4 MB image.

From this I gather that the Skyview thinks there is not enough room on the USB card so it causes it to freeze up. I have removed dozens of screenshots from the USB card so I don't know why I cannot then add a whole bunch more. Perhaps the USB card needs to be reformatted. I will reformat the USB card and see if that corrects the problem.

So first, you might try reformatting the USB stick. If the file system has been corrupted in some way, that may cause issues (we've never seen them, I'm just hypothesizing here).

Second, have you tried a different USB stick?

Reformatted the USB drive and it seems to have solved the problem with screen freezes.
