Skyview bootup problem

I recently installed a 7" skyview system in my RV.  I am commonly getting a gray screen with lines running through it and have to reboot the skyview several times until it starts up properly.  Any suggestions on the source of the problem from someone else that has run across this?

Thanks,

Dan

What software version is installed? If it is not 2.6, you should install 2.6. In any case, you should contact Dynon Support at support@dynonavionics.com, or call 425-402-0433. We want to make sure we get that working correctly.

I've got 2.6 installed and I plan on calling tomorrow. Just thought I would see if this might be a common problem someone knew an easy fix for.

dkol I had 2.5 installed and encountered the same problem. I sent it in overnight on Fedex. If you send your unit in, be very clear on your mode of shipping so an equivalent mode will be used on the return. Mine was sent 3 day saver return and of course UPS misdirected it. If it ever returns (going on a week now) I will see if 2.6 makes a difference. The techs could not duplicate the anomaly in the lab. I noticed the problem grew worse as the OAT dropped during initial boot up. That may contribute. Good Luck.

I called in the issue and was told to box it up and send it in. Since it is an issue with cold temperatures though I don't know if it will be duplicated sitting on a workbench.

Since we've got winter storms rolling through here at the moment I decided to experiment with it a bit today. Same issue when I tried to boot it up. Once I disconnected the backup battery though it boots up fine every time. Shut it down and reattach the battery and it goes to the same gray screen again. The battery is showing a full charge.

I have the exact same problem as you describe and have even installed the latest 2.6 release. The latter did not resolve the problem. I called Dynon and they issued me an RMA number to return the Skyview for warranty service. With the snow this week I have been unable to get to the hangar just yet to remove and pack the unit for shipment to Dynon.

2.6 failed to resolve mine after a return from the boffins and their oversight. I did get mine to boot after warming it up with directed warm air on the unit.

As my unit passed the 6 month point it started clicking and radio reception degraded. It was crystal clear at first. All my batteries have been replaced, Trutrak EFIS, and 696 are behaving well.

Robert Hamilton and crew have been first class in getting on top of this problem. I am returning my old unit to get a post mortem on its failure mode. Something deep in the interior has gone south, time for expert boffin care. I hope it is a one or two time thing that is containable. This stuff happens w/electronics. I have one Klaus's LSE Plasma IIs in my F1 Rocket. It was acting up 6 years ago after first flight. After following Klaus's troubleshooting to the tee, he pronounced, "You have bad diodes". He didn't yell at me, I was happy about that. It works perfectly to this day. Hope for the same here.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll probably send mine in when it goes down for annual in a few weeks. My current startup procedure just involves waiting a couple of minutes after engine start, then hitting 1,2,5 and it reboots fine. that doesn't help when I just jump in the plane to do a database update though. Then I have to disconnect the backup battery.
