I am working on the engine for routine maintenance. I have had the carb sensor connected and working for about 1 year. After the oil change, an engine test revealed that the carb sensor was not working. Wiring was good up to the sensor. I had encased the wires in heat shrink to protect and bundle them. Flexing the wires at the sensor, made it start to work. Looking further I could see the wires were bare and shorting at the sensor, and I could see they had been soldered. Eventually it stopped working completely, and after more flexing, the wires came completely out of the sensor. They looked like the ends were just tinned with solder. Digging into the sensor with my Dremel tool, I found no terminals. New sensor ordered. I wonder what happened, and if these are fragile devices? I will allow for a more flexible connection at the sensor, with no heat shrink at the sensor either.

They're pretty robust sensors overall - of all of them, I'd say it might be one of the ones we hear the least about.
