Hi,
In the installation manual Doc 101320-017 revR, August 2014 it says the SV-D700/D1000 current draw is 3.5 amps per display average. Can you confirm that the D700 has the same average current draw as the D1000 please? I would have thought the smaller screen would be less.
The SV D1000T also shows current draw of 3.1amp per display average but no figure is quoted for the 7inch screen. If you could give me that also it that it would be great.
Thanks,
Alan

I'm also interested in this issue, since I am considering purchasing dual D-700's.

It's hard for us to give a specific number on a screen, since the screens power external devices. Technically, the power draw is related to how many AHRS, EMS, ARINC, etc modules you have connected. Thus, we give 3.5A as the "draw" but in reality this is the maximum with a loaded system.

A modern (bought today) 7" screen draws about 20W all by itself. That's about 1.7A at 12V, and less at 14V. An older 7" draws about 26W.

If you are really on a tight power budget, you need to work in the specific modules you will be using. If you aren't super tight, 4W extra for each AHRS, EMS, ARINC, knob module, etc will give you a very conservative estimate.

A word to the wise...I wouldn't install the 700's unless you have really young eyes or are forced to because of panel space. I have one of each and wished I had two larger screens. Craig

I agree. The font size for the D700 is inadequate. I am considering removing my D700 and putting a good legible GPS its place. Once the SV trial map licence runs out I will make the decision. Just to be fair, the Garmin Aera display is even worse, so it will get punted as well. If the D700 was right in front of my nose, it would probably be OK, but it's off angle.

Thanks guys for the input and clarification on the current draw.

I have also now seen for myself what you mean about the D700 font size particularly in EMS config. Way too small for my old eyes. So, sorry Dynon I won't be buying D700!
What I don't understand is why? The older D120 units are the same size units and yet the font is clearer and perfectly legible. A retrograde step that needs sorting I think fast!

A visit to your optometrist perhaps?

Actually a slight, and only slight increase in font would be good. But if you can't easily see it, perhaps it is not the D700 with the problem. You may need a visit to the eye specialist.

I spent some time looking at this in a friends plane and whilst the font size is an issue when the D700 is on the passenger side, I think it is more the type of font that is being used on the D700 that is the problem.
It is a different from the type used on the D120. My question now is wondering why?

Others think the same so I would suggest that someone needs to give the D700 display a rethink.

Incidently DB... Eye specialist visited 2months ago!  ;)
