skyview D700 fails to boot

D700 was freezing after about 1 to 2 min following bootup (this is all on the ground, have not had engine start yet). Updated the firmware to the latest file from the website. Finally got it updated (it first froze during update and had to be shut down). Following update it initially behaved normally, then exhibited erratic symptoms freezing on the splash screen sometimes, then booting, then screen flashes with vertical lines. Now it will not boot even to the splash screen. I removed the backup battery from the system, but no change.
