Forgot to add this to my prev post...

The Skyview has it's own 'Hobbs', what risk is there of this being lost/wiped etc? Is it it wise to have a separate 'steam' Hobbs - that functions if the Skyview goes off and still records any hours etc.

It matters how important the hobbs number is to you. In an experimental in the USA, I don't think there is any legal reason you need one.

You can back it up in SkyView by doing a settings export to a USB stick. If you do this every 10 flights or so, then you'll never lose more time than that. If you have two SkyView screens in the plane, they are cross-backed up. We've never seen a SkyView loose the hobbs randomly, the only way you'll drop it is if the whole SkyView fails and you can't turn it on to see the number.

A mechanical hobbs can fail too. You can see the last number when this happens of course, but it can stop running which can take a few hours to notice. I'd say if you are willing to back up SkyView every 10 hours (this only takes a few seconds) then you aren't likely to loose more time on a SkyView failure than you would on a mechanical hobbs.
