This is addressed to Dynon Support. I'm not really asking for anything; it's more of a notification of something strange happening that may be useful for you to know about.
Occasionally my SV-D1000 system powers up incorrectly. Today I caught it in the act and was able to obtain a couple of screen captures, the first of which is shown here:
The incorrect power-up took an inordinate amount of time in the splash screen during the bootup (so long that I thought it was hung up). When it finally finished booting and attempted to display the standard PFD, map, and EMS screens, the map was displayed with a red "X" and a caption "NO GPS POSITION SOURCE".
I removed bus power to power down and the unit went dark immediately -- no backup battery action.
In a few seconds I reapplied bus power and the unit powered up correctly (including the map/GPS) as shown here:
When I shut down again by removing the bus power, the backup battery operated the unit for 30 seconds. In other words, the unit operated normally the second time.
Here are some of the particulars of my system (RV-8A):
- current firmware
- one display
- fully-charged backup battery
- SV-GPS-250 powered by the SV-D1000
- two autopilot servos (powered OFF but on the bus)
- SV-XPNDR-261, no ADS-B
- flown 2 days earlier without incident
- USB thumb drive (with charts) inserted
- power supplied from the E-bus and engine off
FYI, as I said. But it has happened enough times that I know something is not right.
