Skyview question - AP seems to wander in NAV mode

Default settings with a SV52 roll servo and the rod connected to the last hole. New installation with latest V5.? software.

In NAV mode it seems to fly left of track and then right of track and going on like that in a constant repeating cycle.

I thought we should increase the default sensitivity to about 15 or even higher.

Reading on these forums I saw that one could increase the angle and then decrease the sensitivity to 0.

Which shall we try first? Or should I maybe move to the middle hole on the roll servo?

If it's wallowing slowly, the generic advice is to increase the sensitivity, one notch at a time, to see if that fixed it. But first, is the NAV source a nav radio or a GPS?

Reading on these forums I saw that one could increase the angle and then decrease the sensitivity to 0.

I think you're mis-reading some advice for our D10/D100 series product autopilots, which have slightly different settings.

For SkyView, one thing to check, right off the gate, is whether you're using Bank Angle or Turn Rate mode on the roll axis. Bank Angle is generally the better-performing mode in most aircraft. If you're overshooting your course, you might try dialing down the bank angle limit as well.

Which shall we try first? Or should I maybe move to the middle hole on the roll servo?

The very first thing to do is to make sure that you understand and have gone through the tuning steps described in the manual. If you have, then, we suggest that you touch base with our tech support staff directly at 425-402-0433 or support at dynonavionics dot com for some more direct support.

Dynon, there was mention of some AP upgrades. Were those upgrades released already or are they still due in a future release?

I noticed the wallowing since my first flight 1.5 years ago. As far as i can tell, the AP performance hasn't changed for the past 1.5 years.

I like using TRK mode. I have roll sensitivity to somewhere around 7 or 8 and get the wallowing. The wings will bank let then right then left then right fairly noticeably. If i decrease sensitivity, the period from left to right will increase.

The problem with increasing sensitivity is in turbulence. The AP tries too hard to fight turbulence, and you get a herky jerky ride.

I guess one solution is to set sensitivity higher for "winter" smoother air flying months. Set sensitivity lower for summer choppy air months.

Jae - there have been some changes, even over the past 1.5 years, but there's still more to come. Will comment more shortly.

I have Skyview with the latest 5.0 release. I believe the SV42 servos for both pitch and roll. Everything is up to date as far as i know.

Let me know if you need something more specific. I will be glad to help out in any way i can.

Thanks,
Jae

And are you using bank angle or turn rate mode on the roll axis? If turn rate, try switching to bank angle mode. What are the rest of your roll axis settings?

Thanks Dynon,
We use GPS as source.
Will try to increase sensitivity andwill make sure we use bank angle.

From memory, i have always had bank angle set using 30 degrees as the max. Sensitivity is currently set at 8 or so, but i will be increasing that up to probably 10 or so given the explanation in my above post.

What i have tried in the past with the lower sensitivity is once the wings are level, i will push the stick with just a "touch" to remain wings level. Without this manual intervention, the wings will roll past level and to the right. Then the AP corrects for that and the wings go from right to left left and the cycle repeats itself.

I will review my settings next time i am at the hangar. Some future day, i want to see how high up i have to increase sensitivity for me to not notice the rolling back and forth.
