I just purchased a 2nd hand 2015 factory built Czech Sport PS28 Cruiser. This has twin Dynon Skyviews 1000s. The Software version is 11.1.0.254.
Should I update this to the latest version and is this possible? Maybe not if it is a ESA certified installation.

It truly depends on the aircraft, how it's certified, and what the manufacturer allows. You'll need to check with them to see what they allow and recommend for your particular model. There is a feature within SkyView that allows aircraft manufacturers to inhibit software upgrades without an "approved" update package from them. If that's enabled, when you press 7+8 to try to get into the setup menu, you'll get either the file loading menu (if there is a USB memory stick connected) or no setup menu at all (if there is no USB memory stick connected)
