Received my HDX for upgrade today. Am wondering about the new screws to hold the displays to the pane. Instructions say to use the existing top hole (10") and drill new holes for the lower display hole.
1. What are the specifications of the screw that comes with the HDX? Especially, the diameter and pitch? I trial started the new screws into the old nutplates and the screw goes in a couple of threads and then get's stiff. Not sure if that means it's a different pitch or just that the nutplate threads are tight. I didn't continue to turn the screw into the nutplate.
2. I may use a clip on nutplate or a Click Bond nutplate for the new hole I'm to drill.
I know I could use the exisiting nutplate for the top screw and simply screw it in all the way and could use any appropriate nutplate size for the new hole I'm going to drill, but would like to have the same pitch and diameter on the second screw as on the top one.
If the nutplate threads are too tight (subjectively) you can run a 6-32 tap through them to relieve that a bit. The old style Dynon screws with the hex inset head were notorious for stripping out with tight nutplates - I don't know how many I had remove with a dremel and flatblade screwdriver. I MUCH prefer the newer capscrews, but I'm still in the habit of running a tap through new nutplates for non-critical fasteners such as this.
The new screws with the HDX have a hex head. My old ones had Torx on the four corners but the middle screws (I didn't install the Touch panel) were hex head and one of them stripped out so I had to drill the head out and then take the screw out with a vice-grip. I will relieve the nutplate as suggested.
