I am attempting to wire my panel. I have a Dynon FD-180, HS-34, SL-30 and GTX 327.

I am by no means an electronic expert. In fact I just bearly get by.

Am I reading something wrong or am I correct in believing that I only have to connect pins 15, serial 2 TX and 2, Serial 2 RX on the male D25 of the HS 34 to the corresponding pins, 4 & 5 on the SL-30? I understand I need to connect the Universal pins correctly but this looks to me like I will not be using the Female D25 on the HS-34 at all. Can this be correct? John

Yep, you got it correct...

There is allot more that the HS34 can do that is not needed for the SL30.  The SL30 only requires a couple wires to fully integrate with the HS34 due to the way it communicates.  That is why you will have no connections to those other pins/connector.

You will love all the things you will be able to do with the HS34 and the SL30.  This combo is really like having two nav radio's, a HSI and an RMI all rolled into one!

Remember to connect you a 9 pin dshell to use for updating the firmware on the HS34 as it must be updated separately from the other devices.

Also if you are going to connect a GPS, it must also be connected to the HS34.

Thanks, I had a hard time believing it was that simple. I will have a 696 on board, but I have not figured out how to pick a signal off that for the HS-34 :)

Working on the wiring harnesses still. Equipment installed is FD-180, HS-34 SL-30 and GTX 327.

On the 37 pin connector from the FD-180 There is a white and black wire marked aux serial receive. Is there any need for this with the HS-34 in the system?

On the 25 pin EFIS connector there is a bundled wire, 3 ft long and a 6" white / black wire. Is there any reason to keep these? Where would I consider hooking up the Yellow, Stay alive power wire? Hot side of the master switch?

I have a yellow / green wire coming out of this connector also. What is this intended for, or is it a mistake.

On the HS-34, would you suggest using the pin #17 gnd wire for the D-9 connector for the laptop connection? also there is a pin #9 marked +5V out. How would I use this, or do I need this?

No need to use the black/white wire with an HS34 in the system.

The 6" black/white wire is the shield for the EDC bundle. While not strictly necessary for operation, our harness builder put it there, and it can only help. You can simply ground it.

Do not connect keep alive to anything. We've removed the recommendation to connect that after a string of problems that affected some units' operation and caused aircraft batteries to be drained quicker than expected. Search the forum for more information on that.

The yellow/green on the DB25 is the serial receive that Stein spliced in if I'm remembering correctly. I believe it's documented on the paper that comes with the harness. But to double check, see if it's continuous to pin 22 on the DB25.

You can use any ground for the D9 for the laptop connection technically, though the diagrams in your D180 manual show pin 17 on the male D25 connector as the one to use. You won't need to use the 5V out on the HS34 connector.

Thanks, That covers most of my questions.

What about the 3 ft. bundled wire. It looks like the EDC bundle but is short?

If you mean with the D9 connected to it, that's the connect-to-your-PC serial update cable on the D25, and an ignore on the D37 (if you had a D120, that would be your update cable).

Actually after further reading, I figured that bundle was for the altitude encoder to transponder hookup. Since I have a seperate AmeriKing encoder I removed that bundle.

Thanks
