SL30 Integration with the HS34

Hey Dynon,

I am getting very very close to ordering my avionics and I need to know about these issues.

OK, Several have reported that there are some issues with the integration of the HS34 with the SL30 like:

Both RMI pointers locked to the active VOR no matter what the second one is set for.

Inability to truly pick any source and combination of for the three available indicators.

This seems like basic stuff that has been promised to be fixed for a long time.... so what is the plan here?

I have seen that these issues were suppose to be fixed with the latest firmware but someone already confirmed that they were not.  The integration with the HS34 and SL30 is a major feature that I want to ensure will work on whatever brand I purchase.

We do have some compatibility issues there with the bearing pointers - as you've noticed - that we thought were fixed. Itt looks like that may not be the case though.

As we don't currently have an SL30 to test against, we rely on customer feedback to get these issues worked out in our beta test periods. As they're on the subtler end of things, and everyone uses their Dynon + SL30 a little differently, we've only gotten very sporadic reports on the issue(s) and their fixes' efficacy.

Note that the core CDI + GS, along with the primary bearing to the active station, do work.

Dynon,

Ask and you shall receive!

Here is a response from your competitor that is offering to help you!  Imagine that!

Should not be necessary.
You can just download our Enigma or Odyssey simulator, switch on the simulated NAV radio and then select that you want to emulate a SL30 on a RS232 port. You then connect that to your EFIS.
Now you can play with the various SL30 messages much better as you can do with a real SL30 standing on the bench. You can "fake" ILS, glideslope, VOR, play with OBS and the various flags, frequencies, just like the real thing...
I have not plugged this into a Dynon of course (I don't own one) but it should work (and it's free)...

I tried it and it works great!  This should help you drastically with your debugging of the SL30 integration.

Man that simulator is cool, you can simulate anything that the SL-30 does!

Here is a screen shot of the interface:
