SL30 Nav/HSI issue

I just picked up my airplane which has an SL30 connected to the Dynon D-100 through the serial port. The SL30 is setup to interface with a "Serial" HSI.

I can tune a VOR on the SL30, but I can't set a course on the SL30. When the OBS button is pressed, the OBS light does not light and the ---FLAGGED--- msg appears. The SL30 seems to be in the "show the direct to VOR radial" mode. The HSI correctly points in the direction of the VOR.

On the EFIS, there are no menu choices for setting a course on the HSI either.

Ideas? Is the issue that the SL30 should be setup as if it's standalone rather than as a serial HSI?

Thanks,

Doug N.

This is probably because the SL30 is set to "Serial" - in this mode the SL30 REQUIRES a signal setting the OBS at least once per second. If it doesn't get this, it flags the NAV as invalid. It also only listens to serial OBS commands.

You want it set to "None", since you do not have a Serial OBS head. It will still send us the data we need, it just won't look for OBS settings on the serial port.

This did it; thanks.

Since it was set this way at the factory (AMD); you might consider passing this info to them so that they understand better how to integrate the avionics. They're a great group and will appreciate the feedback.
